Windshield Bonding Process

4/23/2021

Documented the process of bonding the windshield:
- taping / masking fuselage
- taping / masking windshield
- bonding and applying contact pressure
- dash vent tweak - Aveo 2” Maxi Vent.. I’ll be running the outside air directly to these. Heat will be routed to the front floor and through the side channels.

Back at it! With a sexy paint job!

2/25/2021

On a cold and snowy morning, my friend and I unloaded the Sling TSi into hangar at KCFO, bringing this build into the next chapter!

The paint looks phenomenal! If anyone is interested in the colors, it’s Sherwin Williams metallic colors.

- Phantom Gray
- Nobel Red
- Las Vegas Gold
- Black Radiance

Items on Order...

2/3/2020

I put in an order for everything else I need at the end of December.
Items on their way:
1. Firewall Forward Kit- this has all the items to support the engine. Oil, brake fluid and coolant reservoirs, etc.
2. Rotax 915is Engine - 141hp of pure FADEC controlled fun!
3. Airmaster Constant Speed Propeller - designed specifically for the Sling TSi.
4. Upholstery - The leather interior and seat cushions. I went with the design below, Medium Grey / Charcoal with red piping.

It’s looking like I won’t be getting most items until March and the engine in May. I might be getting my avionics somewhere in between.

I still have to order the parachute, but that will be in a bit..

Now to start thinking about the exterior paint design and colors!

Wing Stand and Parts Board

11/19/2019

I figured I was about to be finished with the right wing and wanted a better wing rack to place it on.
I decided to build one off the EAA instructions with some spare wood that I had in the garage. It’s not my best work, but it’s sturdy!

Also, I was down in LA for work last week and was able to stop by The Airplane Factory in Torrance.
Always good to see the guys and Barry was kind enough to take me out to lunch.

While I was there, I met several other folks building or helping build Sling 4’s and TSi’s. Love talking shop! Some great advice and tips for future steps in the build process.

One thing I saw there was a parts board, which is perfect for making it easy to find small parts in the inventory! I previously just had all the parts in plastic storage containers, but often had to dig through them to find that ‘one’ missing part.
That was much easier to build, just screwed in some small wood planks on the side and stapled the parts to the board. Viola!

The Journey Begins...

3/15/2019

After months of research, I decided to pull the trigger and put down the initial deposit on a Sling TSi QuickBuild kit!

The Sling TSi seems to hit all the sweet spots:
  • 4 seater
  • Fast
  • Efficient
  • Modern Avionics
  • 'Oh Shit Handle' - a.k.a. Ballistic Parachute

I've received initial estimates that the Quick Build will take approximately 3-4 months. That would put the container arriving sometime in June / July.
